The medical products industry today is an extremely complex, multi-dimensional universe. From public health to health care, managers within this industry have to deal with complex issues related to moral and ethical dilemmas of universal health care vis-à-vis industry profitability and market share. The medical products industry is facing unprecedented pressure to continuously improve performance levels while sustaining corporate social responsibility.
Within this universe, SIMI programs serve the medical industry by addressing the needs across the entire 3-D spectrum of the industry: drugs, devices, and diagnostics.
In addition to the two flagship programs addressing product innovation (MMPI) and marketing strategy (MMS), offerings within the universe will soon be expanded to include elective certificates capturing trends across the industry, such as pricing and reimbursement, generics and bio-generics, IP and regulatory issues, hospital and specialty products, among others.
Completion of the MMPI, the MMS, and three of six electives make participants eligible for a specialized Masters in Medical Business Strategy (MMBS). Dates and session titles for the new offerings will be posted closer to each program start.
a. Managing Medical Product Innovation (MMPI)
This four module diploma program on Managing Medical Product Innovation provides participants with a solid foundation and tools as well as a deeper understanding of medical business strategy, R&D portfolio management, health care economics, and managing uncertainty and risk. It strengthens their ability to identify and maximize change opportunities, and thereby optimize capability building within their organizations. MMPI has been created to help medical product companies address the innovation challenge by enabling participating managers to design an overall innovation improvement initiative in their own companies within the context of real-life assignments and develop an understanding of major cross-cutting industry issues capturing future trends in industry.
b. Medical Marketing Strategy (MMS)
Especially created for managers focused on developing and launching medical products in diverse markets, the four day Medical Marketing Strategy Certificate Program provides participants with powerful frameworks and tools for how to best bring new products to market, manage these products throughout their lifecycle, and position for next generation success. It allows participants to develop a marketing strategy for bringing and then managing these new products over time. The insights delivered enable participants to re-think and re-tool their approach to the market to gain competitive advantage and maximize profits.
While the longer MMPI program gives more focus to innovation in product development, the short MMS program focuses on bringing and managing these products in the market over their life time.
c. Strategic Pricing and Reimbursement Planning (P&R)
Learn how to maximize value throughout the product lifecycle - for innovators in the medical products industry. Medical product markets are driven by powerful economic forces that are significantly shaped by the reimbursement policies and administrative decisions of a wide variety of public and private payers. Product reimbursement planning is a very complex activity that cuts across all aspects of medical technology development. There is no simple cookbook to develop a reimbursement plan. Fortunately, there is a unique planning template that managers can use to systematically evaluate the reimbursement opportunities and risks for a specific new product. Join the program and take away a Six Step Reimbursement Planning Template!!
d. Master of Medical Business Strategy
The MMBS is a newly introduced Masters program of study designed to provide an alternative to an executive MBA. This new MMBS program is shorter and more flexible than an E*MBA since it does not require a fixed chronology to complete its curriculum and is restricted to the context of the medical products industry. Candidates will have two years to complete the curriculum. The MMBS program of study is based upon the completion of the basic program offerings within the medical area, and complementing these with two concluding projects. Earning an MMBS thus primarily requires completing the MMPI and the MMS, selected electives to cover cross-cutting trends in industry, and the individual completion of two concluding projects in collaboration with assigned tutors, one dealing with strategic business development and the other with personal leadership development. Each program offered is complete in itself, and can be taken individually or used toward earning the MMBS.
